Students of the International School of Bangkok (ISB) achieved their target of reducing the level of food waste in their canteen by half, during their Earth Week Celebrations, 21 – 25 April 2014. The students adhered to their pledge to Mr. Q, whom they fondly refer to as “Mr Pickle,” of reducing food waste in the canteen by ordering only what they were able to consume. Canteen operators collaborated by not serving additional helpings of either rice or French fries (the most wasted food items the school canteen). With the continued efforts of the students to reduce food waste, the school target of reducing the level of food waste to 30 kg (the quantity that can be handled in one batch by the school’s biodigester) can feasibly be met by the end of the school term.
